Mustang Baseball Travel Teams offer a competitive and development-focused baseball experience for players ages 9U-12U. These teams provide an opportunity for young athletes to refine their skills, compete in local and regional tournaments, and grow as baseball players in a team-first environment.

Our travel program is in addition to league play, offering motivated athletes an avenue to further their development and prepare for future competitive baseball opportunities.

What is Travel Baseball?

Travel baseball is for players who are committed to learning and improving their game at a higher level. The Mustang Baseball Travel Program is designed for families that support skill development and tournament play, ensuring that each child gets the chance to compete against top talent.

Key Features of the Travel Program:

• Teams are generally formed through tryouts ensuring players are placed at the appropriate skill level for competition.
• Each team will compete in multiple weekend tournaments throughout the season, including the Badlands Battle of the Bats in Dickinson on June 27th - 29th, 2025.
• Travel baseball requires a higher level of commitment, including additional practices, travel expenses, and weekend tournament participation.
• Playing time and positions are not guaranteed. This is a competitive program, and coaches make playing decisions based on team needs and performance.
• Each player receives a team jersey and hat as part of their registration. Families are responsible for additional required equipment such as baseball pants, cleats, gloves, bats, and helmets (per league rules).

Tournament Schedule:

Tournament dates and locations will be announced at the beginning of the season. Teams typically participate in 3-5 tournaments, including the North Dakota State Tournament at the end of the season.

Cost & DIBs Volunteer Requirement:

• $200 Registration Fee (Covers jerseys, hats, tournament fees)
• $200 DIBs Volunteer Check (Must be completed at the Badlands Battle of the Bats tournament weekend; check will be returned upon completion of volunteer hours)
• Additional expenses for travel, lodging, meals, and equipment are the responsibility of the family.
• Once teams are finalized, a separate registration form will be provided for travel fee payments. A travel team meeting will be scheduled later to try on jerseys, review expectations, collect DIBs checks, answer any questions families may have, and discuss tournament details and team logistics.

Tryout & Age Eligibility Information

Travel baseball is available for the following age divisions. Players are placed based on their age as of April 30, 2025:

• 12U Division: Born between May 1, 2012 – April 30, 2013
• 11U Division: Born between May 1, 2013 – April 30, 2014
• 10U Division: Born between May 1, 2014 – April 30, 2015
• 9U Division: Born between May 1, 2015 – April 30, 2016

Playing Time & Team Expectations

Travel Baseball is highly competitive, and playing time is not guaranteed. Coaches make decisions based on performance, attendance, and team needs, with a focus on both player development and team success. Players may not always play their preferred position but will be placed where they can best contribute.

Coaches will outline expectations in a preseason parent/player meeting, and while open communication is encouraged, playing time and position decisions are final.

Tryouts will be held at DSU Weinbergen Gym, located in Weinbergen Hall at 1104 2nd St. West, Dickinson, ND 58601. Players should enter through the South Doors and come prepared with the required gear.

11U Mustang Travel Team Tryouts & Baseball Camp

• Dates: Sunday, March 2 & Sunday, March 9, 2025
• Time: 5:00 – 6:30 PM
• Location: DSU Weinbergen Gym (Enter through South Doors)

The 11U tryouts will be structured as a baseball camp, led by Coach Andy Emard, providing a quality learning experience for all 11-year-old players. High-level community coaches, including Coach Pete Dobitz, Coach Ryan Crossingham, Coach Ben Herauf, and Coach Jason Watson, will evaluate players and offer constructive feedback to help them improve. Even if a player isn’t planning to join travel baseball, this is a great development opportunity.

Players should bring gloves, bats, indoor shoes (no cleats), baseball pants/sweatpants, a baseball hat, and a water bottle.

9U Mustang Travel Team Tryouts

The 9U travel team is for young players who are eager to experience competitive baseball while continuing their skill development.

What to Expect at Tryouts:

• This is an instructional tryout, with an emphasis on learning and growing as an athlete. Players will be evaluated on throwing, catching, fielding, hitting, and game awareness.
• Parents interested in assisting with coaching are encouraged to attend and participate.
• Players should bring gloves, bats, indoor shoes (no cleats), baseball pants/sweatpants, a baseball hat, and a water bottle.
